Boil water advisory issued for Portage areas due to water gate valve repair

A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Portage.

The city of Kalamazoo was repairing a water gate valve on Lorraine Avenue when a temporary loss of pressure occurred.

All water intended for drinking or any consumptive uses must be boiled for the following areas:

The advisory is precautionary only, as there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main, according to officials.

Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection, and the advisory is expected to be lifted in 72 hours. Kalamazoo employees may be tasked with obtaining samples directly from customers, officials said.

No special precautionary measures are necessary for water used for personal hygiene.
