Nov 29, 2023People are just realizing there is a reverse way to use a strainer
TIKTOK users have been left divided after realizing they have been using strainers wrong.
The video has racked up over 63,000 views on the platform as people are desperate to realize what they are doing wrong in the kitchen.
Content creators Cooking Cards (@cookingcards) gave a lesson to viewers on how to use a strainer the correct way in one of their clips.
In the video, a person can be seen straining pasta in the usual way.
The strainer is placed in the sink and the pasta and cooking water is poured into it.
The video then transitioned to show the strainer hack that people should use.
It shows the strainer placed in the pot on top of the pasta and water.
This is when the cook holds the strainer to the pot and gently pours the water down the sink with all pasta still in the pot.
It left the comment section divided with a number of people calling it genius and others saying it was not better than the usual way.
"NOOO! You're using the colander WRONG," one wrote.
Others said that the base of their strainer surely should not touch the food they will eat.
One said: "My colander has a rubber base, don't think it's supposed to go in the food..."
Others added: "That base was in your bacteria-filled sink and you then put it over your pasta."
"There's a stand at the bottom for a reason," another person commented.
However, one called the hack "actual genius," and another said: "Well damn I'm going to start doing this because I hate having pasta everywhere."
While this is a benefit noted by a number of viewers, another objection to the hack was about safety.
People aired their concerns that the steam or hot water could move toward the person's hands as they pour out the water.
"All good until the water gets a mind of its own and flows where your hands are," one commenter said.
Others concluded that it takes longer than the usual way of draining pasta.
In another kitchen utensil hack, TikTok users are learning that they can use a sieve as a hair diffuser for perfect curls.
